About

Grade School

Dayton Grade School, the sole K-5 elementary school in Dayton, Oregon, serves families living in rural Yamhill County. Approximately 357 students attend Dayton Grade School and the average class size is 25. A transitional bilingual program and differentiated instruction that meets the learning needs of all students are just some of the factors that shape Dayton Grade School’s exemplary tradition.

All students in the Dayton School District have access to a device for learning. We are a 1:1 school district with iPads for kindergarten through first grade and Chromebooks for students in the second through twelfth grade.

Dana Symons began as Principal at the start of the 2020 school year. She had been the Assistant Principal at Dayton Grade School since 2016. Currently Dana coordinates federal programs and is the district testing coordinator. Dana is bilingual in Spanish and English and has taught English Language Development K-12. Before that, Dana was a classroom teacher at the grade school. Dana and her husband enjoy spending time with their three daughters. The family enjoys soccer, spending time with their horses, and reading.
